New Atlanta United acquisition Hector Villalba will head south of the border for the remainder of 2016.
The 21-year-old winger, who Atlanta acquired from Argentine club San Lorenzo on July 22, is set to the rest of the year on loan at Tijuana, the upcoming MLS expansion side announce on Thursday.
Atlanta had already confirmed that Villalba would spend the rest of 2016 on loan when they announced his signing, and the Liga MX side last week indicated that Villalba would be linking up with them:

The loan to Tijuana became official upon receipt of Villalba’s international transfer certificate, making him eligible for Xolos’ Liga MX game on Saturday at Cruz Azul.
“We’re pleased to have Tito on loan with Xolos in the Mexican top division,” said Atlanta United technical director Carlos Bocanegra, in a statement provided by the club. “He will be competing in a tough league which will challenge him and keep him sharp. He’ll also have several American teammates and will be in close proximity to the United States which will allow him to begin working on his English language skills.”
Villalba made over 100 first-team appearances in four years with San Lorenzo, recording 16 goals and helping San Lorenzo to the 2014 Copa Libertadores title.
Managed by former Mexico head coach Miguel Herrera, Tijuana has several US national team players on the roster, including defenders Michael Orozco and Greg Garza and pre-Copa America Centenario call-ups Paul Arriola and Amando Moreno.

KENNESAW, Ga. – A new era will begin this fall when first-year head coach Benji Walton leads the Kennesaw State women's soccer team onto the field for its 2016 season opener at Chattanooga on Aug. 19.
 
The preparation for that first match begins Tuesday (Aug. 2) when Walton welcomes 14 returners and 11 newcomers to the initial team meeting of the season. The Owls will have their first training session on Wednesday (Aug. 3) beginning at 8 a.m.
 
Walton inherits a team that is coming off a 6-10-3 season and an appearance in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament. The Owls return their top five points leaders from a year ago.
 
Walton took over the reins of the Kennesaw State program on Jan. 4 after spending the previous three seasons as an assistant coach at Indiana.
 
WALTON ON THE START OF THE SEASON
"You're always excited when you're this close to getting the team together. There is always this general enthusiasm to get rolling. There is also some nerves as to how it's going to take shape and how it's going to come together for the team. Right now we're counting the days, looking forward to getting the girls in one room again and just get started, and starting putting the pieces together."
 
WHAT'S AHEAD
The Owls will hold two-a-day training sessions Wednesday through Aug. 10 before hosting Middle Tennessee in an exhibition on Aug. 11 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium beginning at 7 p.m. Following its season opener at Chattanooga, Kennesaw State will host Georgia State in its home opener on Aug. 22. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
 
THE ROSTER
The 25-person roster includes 14 returners and 11 newcomers, including six returning starters. The team is led by seven seniors, including forward Cassidy Kemp, who paced the Owls with 16 points (six goals, four assists).
 
THE SCHEDULE
Kennesaw State's 17-match schedule includes seven home contests and 10 road matches. The home slate is highlighted by visits from Georgia State (Aug. 22), Mercer (Aug. 26) and defending ASUN Conference champion Florida Gulf Coast (Oct. 7). KSU opens the month of September with five straight road matches that include a trip to Athens on Sept. 11 to take on Georgia.

Admission to all home matches at Fifth Third Bank Stadium are free and seating is general admission.

Atlanta United and Coventry City announced today that midfielder Chris McCann will be joining the Sky Bet League One side through December 31.
What is Coventry City’s history?
The club was formed in 1883 and called Singers FC, as it was founded by employees of the Singer company. Singer started as a bicycle making business before later manufacturing motorcycles and automobiles. In 1898, the name of the club was changed to Coventry City. They moved into their longtime stadium Highfield Road in 1899, they remained there until 2005.
Coventry visited Atlanta in 1970 for a friendly with the Atlanta Chiefs of the original North American Soccer League. 6,773 fans turned out at Tara Stadium in Clayton County to see the home team lose 2-1. Brian Joicey scored his second goal of the match in the 88th minute to win it.
They have won one major trophy, the 1987 FA Cup. They have also reached two League Cup semifinals, in 1981 and 1990. Coventry was a charter member of the Premier League and enjoyed 34 season run in the English top flight from 1967-2001. They spent eleven seasons in the Championship before being relegated to League One in 2012.
Financial issues have plagued the club in recent years, even being forced to play a season away from its home at Ricoh Arena due to going into administration (similar to bankruptcy) over unpaid rent. The Sky Blues returned to the Ricoh Arena in 2014.
What are the predictions for Coventry City in the 2016-17 League One season?
After an eighth place finish last season in League One, the pundits are predicting a slightly worse finish this season.
The team finished last season on a high note, winning four of the club’s last five games. They missed out on a playoff spot for promotion by five points. That disappointment was largely down to a miserable start to 2016, with the Sky Blues losing seven of nine games in a stretch from mid-January through mid-March.

One familiar face to MLS fans is former Seattle Sounders midfielder Andy Rose. He joined the club last season and played in twelve matches, scoring twice.
How will Chris McCann fit into the Coventry City squad?
Versatility is one of McCann’s strong suits and it will be needed in a fairly small squad at Coventry. He also was part of a League One winning side last year at Wigan and that experience is valuable to a club trying to move up. Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray said:
"He was a crucial part of the Wigan Athletic side who won this league last year and I’ve already seen a good mix of ability and tenacity from him. I want a team who are prepared to play football but also dig in and compete. For that, you need players who can keep the ball in tight areas and play but also have a bit of bite.
Chris has these attributes and I’m delighted to welcome another signing to the club ahead of next season."
Mowbray has been a proponent of the 3-4-3 formation, but has also shown tactical flexibility. McCann will be a player who can play wide on the left or holding centrally in the midfield of a 3-4-3, but who can also slide to the backline when the situation calls for it.
As things stand now, McCann will be a very important player for Coventry City during his loan spell. He will miss three matches to start the season due to a red card in the final match of last season with Wigan. Where he slides in when he is eligible will probably come down to how the team starts the season.

Atlanta United announced Tuesday that they have loaned midfielder Chris McCann to English League One club Coventry City for the remainder of 2016.
Atlanta, who will begin MLS play in 2017, announced on July 6 that they had signed the 29-year-old McCann from English Championship club Wigan Athletic. He’ll rejoin Atlanta for their inaugural preseason camp in January.
“Coventry offers Chris the opportunity to play in a competitive environment and get meaningful minutes leading up to the start of our inaugural season,” Atlanta United technical director Carlos Bocanegra said in a statement released by the club. “We will stay in constant contact with Coventry and will follow Chris closely through December.”
A native of Dublin, McCann began his pro career with Burnley, spending eight years with the club before moving to Wigan in 2013. He totaled 44 appearances for Wigan in the Championship in the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons before recording four goals and six assists in 38 appearances in the 2015-16 campaign to help the Latics win the League One title and earn promotion back to the second division.

Atlanta, say hello to transit-oriented soccer.
It's the latest move by MARTA to try to boost street life around its stations. The organization is working with nonprofit Soccer in the Streets to construct what it’s billing the first soccer field ever built inside  transit facility.
The pitch, measuring about 66 by 99 feet (smaller than a regulation-sized soccer field), will be housed on the top floor of Five Points Station, in downtown Atlanta.
MARTA’s Amanda Rhein says Five Points is like a lot of MARTA stations, in that it contains spaces like this floor that have long stood vacant.
“These spaces were incorporated into the station to provide for a community use there, but they never really have been used as they were originally intended,” Rhein says.
Youth outreach nonprofit Soccer in the Streets, which is responsible for constructing and maintaining the field, plans to hold youth and adult matches there starting this fall.
If the five-year pilot is a success, MARTA plans to create similar programs at other stations.

Soccerwire.com has released a full list of developmental soccer academies with the most US Youth National Team players within their age groups. Georgia United falls tied for 11th on that list.
The good news for Atlanta United fans is most of those players have recently been signed to the Atlanta United Academy. Matthew Rios (U14), Jackson Conway (U14), Carlos Asensio (U15, U17), Daniel Mangarov (U15), Zyen Jones (U17) , Juan Pablo Torres (U15, U16, U18) and Christopher Goslin (U15, U17) have all spent time playing for different US youth national teams throughout the last several years. Some of these players have even been asked to participate in training sessions with different clubs throughout Europe.
Andrew Carleton, arguably one of US Soccer's top youth prospects, was recently signed as Atlanta United's first Homegrown player. The 16-year-old plans to participate in the 2016 U17 World Cup and is expected to spend some time playing for AUFC's USL affiliate, the Charleston Battery.
