Atlanta International Soccer Fest 2012

“The Atlanta International Soccer Fest (AISF) is the signature fundraising event of the Atlanta Committee for SOS Children’s Villages USA. The goal of AISF is to build awareness and raise funds for SOS Children’s Villages using the global appeal of the game of soccer to build solidarity amongst the Metro Atlanta community, and to garner support for this international non-profit for orphaned and neglected children.
SOS Children’s Villages is an independent, non-governmental social development organization (501c3) that has been working to meet the needs and protect the interests and rights of children since its foundation in 1949 in Austria. Operating in 132 countries, SOS Children’s Villages provides long-term family-based care for more than 85,000 children who have been orphaned, abandoned or whose families are unable to care for them. To help prevent child abandonment, and to aid families struggling within a cycle of poverty and disease, SOS Children’s Villages supports another 600,000 children and their families through family strengthening programs and educational, medical and social outreach initiatives. The RailHawks went down to Georgia to defeat the Atlanta Silverbacks 2-0 for third straight league win

WEB/ NORCROSS—The Carolina RailHawks defeated the Atlanta Silverbacks 2-0 Saturday evening in Norcross, Ga. A crowd of 6,000—including 17 members of the Triangle Soccer Fanatics supporters group who made the trip to Georgia—filled Atlanta Silverbacks Park to watch the RailHawks win their third consecutive league match and their first road victory this season.
The result was strangely appropriate for a game in which the RailHawks, playing without injured leading scorer Brian Shriver, should have scored more and their sometimes unsteady defense appeared destined to surrender multiple goals. After Breiner Ortiz squandered a one-on-one goal-scoring opportunity in the 36th minute, Austin Da Luz dispossessed Atlanta's DaniloTurcios in the 44th minute and fed a deft ball ahead to a streaking Zack Schilawski. The Carolina striker one-touched the ball past goalkeeper Daniel Illyes for his second goal this season the 1-0 lead at intermission.
Atlanta controlled pace and possession for most of the second half. However, they failed to put the ball on frame most of the night: only three of their 12 shots were on-target. Moreover, RailHawks keeper Ray Burse put on a terrific display to earn his second clean sheet this season, including a spectacular diving deflection of a Borfor Carr blast in the 78th minute and couple of header saves in the game's waning minutes.
Ty Shipalane, getting his first start since the May 12 match at Minnesota, blew two unabated scoring chances in the second stanza, both thwarted by Illyes, who compiled five saves of his own. However, in the 86th minute, Shipalane delivered a cross off the right wing that found the foot of second-half sub Brian Ackley in the goalmouth. Ackley directed the finish for the 2-0 final margin.
The win lifts Carolina (3-5-4, 14 points) into the sixth position in the NASL standings and only three points behind the 3rd-place Minnesota Stars FC. The RailHawks look to continue their winning way next Saturday, June 23 when they host FC Edmonton at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary.

Andrew Duran loaned out to Atlanta (NASL)

duran mug 2012.jpgUPDATE 3:58 p.m. -- A Sounders FC spokesman says there's "no exact time frame" on Andrew Duran's loan. Seattle and Atlanta will stay in contact and make that decision together.
UPDATE 2:57 p.m. -- According to the Silverbacks, Duran's loan will be for the rest of the 2012 season.
Sounders FC defender Andrew Duran has been loaned out to the Atlanta Silverbacks of the second-tier North American Soccer League, the team announced Friday.
No timeline on the loan deal was given in a news release.
Duran, Seattle's first-round pick in January's MLS SuperDraft, hasn't played this season outside of four games in the reserve league. The 22 year old missed several weeks earlier in the year after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and it certainly seems like minutes might've been hard for him to find in the short term.
In recent years, the Sounders have loaned out players like Michael Tetteh (Orlando City) andMiguel Montano (Montreal) to lower-league teams during the season. Other players like Lamar Neagle and Alex Caskey (Charleston) benefited from longer stays in years off from MLS.
Interesting that the deal was made with Atlanta, which the Sounders purchased Open Cup hosting rights from last month for a third-round game.

ASN sent out its crack reports to find out Who is Pimp Warrior and what makes him tick.
We were lucky enough to get this interview...

"Pimp Warrior", born to a Spaniard father and a Colombian mother. Marco "El Matador" Garcia was raised by humble means. Mostly raised on mashed potatoes, arepas, and boiled eggs. Marco grew to be a fine physical specimen with a tremendous gift for the sciences and a passion for futbol. A perfectionist by nature, Marco lives by one simple rule, "failure is NOT an option." Once called a "dungeon dweller," El Matador has catapulted to the top of the boards, causing grown man to defecate on themselves and women to pee-pee when they hear his name. Known by his futbol colleagues for his ferocious defensive style and bulldog-like approach, Marco plays futbol as a defender.
Of his competition in ASN... "I avoided the predicthescore for a long time...didn't wanna hurt anyone's feelings by dethroning them. I have spent years playing FIFA video games and I attribute half of my success on predicting the score to all those hours spent in front of the TV. The other half comes from the Almighty Himself. "
About his tremendous start... "Some might say, "beginner's luck." Others might ask, "is he the chosen one?" or "what's his midichlorian count?" What the future holds? I don't know, I'm not an Oracle. But what I do know is that I'm coming hard like them Cubans in the 80s, going all out, H.A.M (Hard As a Motherfucka). Don't let me get in my zone..."

Congratulations to Pimp Warrior for leading in all categories.  This pimping prognosticator came out of nowhere to lead in Overall standings, Manager of the Month and Manager of the Week.  He leads in predicting the scores and goal scorers.

Who is this upstart? ASN is sending out its top journalists to find out.  Tune in for more coverage of this exciting tournament in the following weeks.
