Natalino & Samuels Highlight Emory Men’s Soccer All-UAA Honorees

Emory University junior defender Andrew Natalino and senior forward Zach Samuels were named to the all-University Athletic Association (UAA) First Team for their performances during the 2011 season, highlighting a list of six Eagles who earned all-UAA recognition.

Along with Natalino and Samuels, junior defender/midfielder David Garofalo was named to the all-UAA second team, while sophomore forward Andrew Jones, freshman forward Dylan Price, and junior defender Alex Scott earned honorable mentions to the all-UAA teams.

Natalino was the only Emory player to start all 18 games during the season, finishing the year with a team-best 16 points on six goals and four assists.  In addition, he contributed to a defense that recorded a 1.39 goals-against average during the season.  He finished the year second among all conference players with four goals and eight points in UAA games, including a game-winning goal.  This is the second-straight season Natalino has been named to the all-UAA First Team.

Samuels finished the year with 12 points on five goals and two assists, good for third on the squad.  Starting all 14 games that he played in, the senior scored a pair of game-winning goals during the year, and registered a hat trick against Berry College on September 24th.  He finished conference play with a goal and an assist in UAA games.  This was the first all-UAA first team selection for Samuels, after he was named an all-UAA honorable mention in 2009 and 2010.

Garofalo led all Emory players with five assists, in addition to scoring one goal, a game winner, during the campaign for a total of seven points.  His three assists in conference play tied him for the third-best mark among all UAA players.  I addition, he was a key contributor to the Eagles' defense throughout the season.  This was the first postseason honor of Garofalo's career.

Jones finished his sophomore campaign with 11 points, coming on five goals and one assist, including a pair of game-winning goals.  In UAA games, the forward was able to register a goal against Case Western Reserve University, and an assist against Brandeis University.  He also had a two-goal game against Rowan University on September 11th.  This was the first postseason honor for Jones.

Price led all Emory players with seven goals during the 2011 season, and finished second on the squad with 15 points.  Of the freshman's seven scores, two were game-winning 'golden goals,' coming against Covenant College and New York University.  Price scored both goals during the Eagles' 2-1 double-overtime win over NYU on October 30th.  He finished conference play with three goals scored and six points.

Scott played center back for the Eagles defense, appearing in all 18 games and starting 17 contests during the year.  He helped Emory record seven shutouts during the season, three of which came during UAA play.  The junior also scored two goals during the season, including the game-winning goal during a 1-0 win over the University of Rochester on October 16th.  This was the first UAA honor for Scott.

Emory finished the 2011 season with an overall record of 10-8-0, including a 4-3-0 record in UAA games, good for a third-place finish in the conference.
