The Importance of Coaching Education

Knowledgeable coaches can impact young players much more effectively. Their training sessions are more relevant, more realistic and speed up the players’ rate of development. It has been shown that clubs with higher licensed coaches produce better players and achieve better results.

Coaches who attend courses are more likely to enjoy their role and are more likely to develop a passion for coaching and make it a life long endeavor. Players who are coached by knowledgeable coaches are more likely to reach their potential and less likely to quit playing. The sad statistic is that roughly 80% of children quit organized sports by the time they reach 14-15 years of age. The reasons cited are mostly linked to the players’ frustration with poor coaching, undue pressure by coaches and parents, and with the sport “not being fun anymore”.

The courses will help coaches understand who they are coaching and improve their ability to plan and conduct training sessions and manage the team on game day. Georgia Soccer’s coaching course are renowned for their quality and the quality of the instructors and Georgia ranks in the top 3 states with the highest number of course enrollments.

The Georgia Soccer coaching courses are age and level specific. This means that coaches can attend the course that is appropriate for them. It means that coaches will acquire the right tools to coach their own players since the course levels cover all the ages from U4 to U19 and all the playing levels.

During the months of July and August, there are over 50 coaching courses offered throughout the state. Coaches should first check with their own club to see if it is hosting a course and then can check the Georgia Soccer web site to see the whole schedule and find a course close to them.

Coaches must have a minimum license to coach youth teams in Georgia Soccer. There is a grace period of 6 months for recreational coaches and a year for select coaches.

So don’t waste any more time. Enroll in a course and give your coaching a boost. You owe it to your players.
