The sophomore out of the University of Indiana had at one point been considered a top 5 pick before sliding down to 10th for no apparent reason. Zavaleta, who scored 18 goals in 2012, tied for third most in Division 1. He can also play defense and that may be where he fits in best in Seattle. It may take awhile to see the results, but Vancouver also appeared to be a big winner on draft day. The Whitecaps, who had the number 5 pick, traded with Toronto to also get the number 4 pick. The team chose two forwards, Kekuta Manneh and Erik Hurtado. Though they are both considered raw talents, the Whitecaps hope they will someday form a potent one-two punch up front. Another of the MLS`s Canadian teams, Toronto FC, also had a good draft. Despite trading away some of its picks, TFC snagged a couple of top young Canadians. With the No. 3 pick, the club took midfielder, Kyle Bekker, a star at Boston College and the MVP of the MLS Combine. Bekker is a member of the Canadian U-23 national team and is expected to join the senior national team, too. With its other first-round pick, TFC took another Canadian and youth teammate of Bekker`s, Emery Welshman, who is a striker. New England may be the overall SuperDraft winner. After trading up to get the No.1 pick from Toronto FC, the Revolution took Andrew Farrell as the overall top pick. Farrell, a very athletic defender from Louisville who can play just about anywhere on the back line, is expected to make an immediate impact in New England. One other big winner in the draft appears to be the Colorado Rapids. The Rapids got a speedy forward, DeShorn Brown, a steady midfielder in Dillon Powers and a defender, Kory Kindle, that scouts say may have the most room to grow of any player in the draft. On the flip side, a couple of teams left analysts scratching their heads on draft day. Dallas FC took a player that some considered a potential No. 1 pick, defender Walker Zimmerman. That seems like a solid pick; however, Dallas is extremely deep at the position Zimmerman plays. In taking Zimmerman, Dallas also passed up on some other players that might have better filled the holes in its roster. Dallas`s second pick was even more of a head scratcher. While Ryan Hollingshead had a distinguished career at UCLA, he plans to take at least a six-month break from soccer to help his brother build a church. The other team whose draft day decisions have been widely questioned is Philadelphia. The Union took relative unknowns in forward, Don Anding and midfielder, Stephen Okai with their first two picks, even though the team seems to need the most help on defense. With the MLS SuperDraft behind us, it will be a month and a half until the MLS season kicks off.
