Charleston Tournament Cancelled as we know it...read letter from founder

Dear Former LSF/CIC Teams,
By now you have received the unfortunate news about the Memorial Day tournament in Charleston. I founded the original tournament in 1984 and it means a great deal to me to have the tournament back. I have many friendships amongst you and it is such a joy to see you all annually on this weekend. However, the City of Charleston's Departments of Recreation and Parks turned the event over to me for a couple of reasons, of which one is that their local programs have been growing and they did not have the resources to properly manage the tournament. One of those resources is fields which no longer are accessible as before. (Economic impact is not a concern of these departments as such. They do not benefit.)

I am trying to salvage the tradition of adult soccer in Charleston on the Memorial Day weekend. We all know that 6v6/7v7 is very popular throughout the country and who knows, it may open doors for a greater variety of teams that only have to manage 10 players vs 20. It is also my hope that this 6v6 format will grow back the women's divisions, which had disappeared.

The WFT is a tour that I am proud of and plan to grow across the country with local, state cups and our WFT World Cup events with both 3v3 (youth) and 6v6 (adults) formats. It our 4th year of existence and we will have over 30 local, 3 state cups, and of course the World Cup IV, which this year will be in Charleston as well.

Let's all keep a positive spin on this and still have a fantastic weekend of soccer, sun and the usual fun.

Thank you,
Kenyon
