Chelsea are in pole position to land Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao after Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho ruled out a move for the Colombian.
Falcao has been linked with a host of top European clubs including Chelsea and Real after continuing his scintillating form from last season with a string of magnificent displays this term.
The 26-year-old stunned Chelsea with a hattrick in the European Super Cup and the Blues are thought to be keen to sign the £40m-rated star.
Man City have also expressed an interest in the striker, who scored 24 league goals last season after arriving in the Spanish capital from Porto, but Mourinho has confirmed that Real are not in the running for his signature.
“Falcao is a fundamental player for our rivals, just like Kun Aguero was,” the Special One told A Bola.
“There is a pact of non-aggression between Real Madrid and Atletico so I think Falcao is a forbidden fruit.
“He’s a fantastic player, and I get the feeling he is a lovely guy, and I’m very happy to see him do so well at Atletico.”
Atletico are understood to be resigned to losing Falcao next summer, particularly if they do not qualify for the Champions League, but are confident of keeping hold of their prized asset in January.
