MLS Atlanta to field a team led by President Darren Eales and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra

The ATL Champions League returns to Atlanta's Grady Stadium on Sunday, May 17th.  Ten teams come together to play a tournament for a cause, raising money to provide soccer opportunities for the kids ofSoccer in the Streets.  This year's event is sponsored byProfisee.

MLS Atlanta will join the tournament for the first time led by club president Darren Eales and former US national team captain and newly appointed Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra.
"MLS Atlanta is proud to join Soccer in the Streets for this year's ATL Champions League Tournament," said MLS Atlanta president Darren Eales. "One of our primary goals as an organization is to use soccer as a tool to improve lives in the Atlanta region for many years to come. We look forward to competing on the pitch in May and continuing to support the great work Soccer in the Streets is doing in our community."

Nine other teams will be competing with MLS Atlanta on and off the field. Atlanta's most passionate soccer fans will be representing some of Europe's top clubs in the event. The tournament is coed and played with a 7v7 format.
Last year's ATL Champions League event raised over $50,000 for metro Atlanta Soccer in the Streets programming.  In the past year, Soccer in the Streets has launched new programming in Atlanta's west side communities and in the Old 4th Ward's Boulevard corridor.  These neighborhoods have some of the highest concentrations of disconnected youth in Atlanta (16-24 year olds who are neither working or in school), an issue Soccer in the Streets programming is designed to address through empowering underserved youth through soccer, character development, mentoring, and employability programs.

"This event has become a highlight of the year for many of the participants," said Soccer in the Streets Chief Executive Officer Jill Robbins. "They look forward to playing a sport they love while raising money and providing opportunities to kids who need them."
