Is Tottenham serious threat for EPL title?

With the halfway point of the English Premier League season now past, the battle for the title has developed into a three horse race.

With respect to perennial contenders Chelsea and Arsenal who now find themselves 11 and 15 points from the top of the table respectively, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have broken away from the pack.

High-spending City and defending champion United are not surprise entrants into this conversation but what of the third team? How seriously do you take Tottenham's title credentials?

When Spurs opened the season by being blown out in consecutive games by United and City, the quality of their squad was immediately called into question.

However the 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford and 5-1 home loss that followed seemed to spark the changes that Harry Rednapp's team needed to turn their season around.

Following the loss to the league leaders at White Hart Lane, Tottenham signed out-of-favour City striker Emmanuel Adebayor on a season-long loan agreement and he immediately began to change the fortunes of his new team.

On his debut, he scored the winning goal as Spurs defeated Wolves, setting them on the path to challenge the top of the table.

Jermain Defoe, Rafael van der Vaart and Gareth Bale have since joined Adebayor among the top scorers in the league and have pushed Tottenham into third place.

The turnaround to their season has earned praise from United manager Sir Alex Ferguson who believes they are going to be involved in the race until the end.

"I have been very impressed with the football they have played." said Ferguson in a recent interview with The Telegraph. "They are definitely strong enough to mount a challenge."

Now sitting five points from the summit, the legitimacy of their chase will be tested over the coming weeks as they clash with City, Liverpool, Newcastle, Arsenal and United in five of their next six league games.

Before they embark on this make-or-break portion of their schedule the question is:

How seriously do you take Tottenham's title credentials? Are they a legitimate threat for the Championship or will they fade away by season's end?

It's Your! Call.
