A typical motivational letter from a local aldult men's soccer coach

Anyone signed to our roster can stay without it costing us anything.

We should keep Bill on; we may need him later in the season since
people get hurt.

Rosters are good through the end of August. We get nothing by dropping
Joe or Raul.

- With each player we add, we cut everyone's playing time and force
substitutions at almost every position. I think most of us would
rather run a little lean on players. I don't have a nice algorithm to
manage this, but except for playing with 10-11 against The Blues last
season, we have been doing ok and were relatively happy about it.

Akil and I also added two guys, Vito Dimitravich and Jose Caisneros, who
are also club members that have something to add when/if we need
them. Hopefully,Vito can play Sunday - he scores goals. Jose is
not available full-time as a keeper, but we have him on as a back-up.

Here is a quick cheat sheet on my method for recommending players:
- Cool head = absolute minimum of red cards, controversy and conflict
with team members.
- Will become a long-term member of the squad and be happy playing on THIS team.
- Helpful in directing teammates. Makes those around him play better.
Encourages team members to play their best
- Works hard. Delays counter-attacks, gets back defensively. Maintains
defensively compact.
- Understands and takes their part in attack. Uses width, depth, space
and speed of play to our advantage.
- Minimizes defensive risks.
- Scores goals or creates goal-scoring opportunities.
- Maintains possession. Passes to feet at the right pace. Uses time
and space to their and teammate's advantage.
- If you've played with of our club teams before, we consider that.
- We try to go play or train with the guys we consider. Solomon has been
on our radar for a year or so.
- Is available to play most of the games in every season or has a
really good reason not to.
- Is not happy when we lose. Is less happy when we play poorly.

Note:
- We have not really cut players and have tried to keep spots open for
injured players to return to the team, which is pretty different from
many teams
- Despite not being cutthroat about recruiting and cutting players, we
have been extremely competitive against everyone in the league.
