Walnut Grove High School Soccer story of Four Brothers

Soccer is Literally in the Blood for Four WGHS Varsity Soccer Players

The four Queen brothers, Darien, Joshua, Jacob and Nathan, are on the 2013 Walnut Grove High School Varsity Soccer Team.

For the first time, the four Queen brothers are playing on the same soccer team – the Walnut Grove High School Varsity soccer team.
Senior and Warriors Varsity soccer captain, Darien Queen, 18, and his younger brother,  junior Joshua Queen, 16, are playing together on the same team at school for a second year.  But this year there is a unique situation that will only happen for the siblings in 2013. They are joined on the team by their younger brothers, twins Jacob and Nathan Queen, both 14.
“They were excited when they realized that they would be playing together,” said the boys’ mother, Sadina Nicholson, adding she even had shirts made by friend Michelle Black. “They all get along really well so it is great that they are able to play on the same team.”
Nicholson’s husband, Kenny, the boys’ stepfather, also an avid supporter of soccer, coached the two older boys at one time, so games are very much a family affair. He said it is a change for them to be at one place watching them all play together instead of rushing from one game to the next. Soccer has been a big influence in their lives for almost a decade, with the boys playing on a club team as well as at school, so it’s not surprising that they play well together.
“Our coach loves watching us play together because of the way we read each other,” said Darien, who said he was the one who first got the family involved in the game. Since he will graduate this year, Darien said he intends to make the most of this one year that they are able to play together on the same team.
“It’s going to be fun, it always is,” he said.
The twins played on the WGHS Junior Varsity team last year when they were in eighth grade and are thrilled to be able to play on the Varsity Team with their two older brothers in their freshman year.
“It’s pretty fun because Darien’s about to graduate and I get to play at a higher level,” said Jacob.
Close as the four boys are playing as a team, the twins say it's even closer for them.
“We’ve been playing together on the same team our whole life - at club and at school,” Nathan said. “So we really are used to playing together and can read each other well.”
The twins play center or wing and are offensive players on the team, according to their stepdad.
“They are more apt to score – they do have a lot of speed and they handle the ball pretty well,” Kenny Nicholson said.  “Joshua plays center defensive back and back up goal keeper and Darien, the oldest, plays center midfield or an attacking position midfield.”
Joshua said because they have played together their whole life, practising together even when not on the same team, all four of them are able to read each other and anticipate each other’s moves.
Unique as their situation is, however, the boys’ mother said Loganville High School’s soccer team has a similar situation, just with one less sibling.
“They have three brothers who play on the LHS team, and I think the two younger ones are twins as well,” she said.
There is one more sibling in the Queen family, a sister. According to her mother, however, she doesn't have the slightest interest in soccer so there is no liklihood of there ever being a fifth Queen sibling hoping to get on the team.
