Cobb County High School Update:Teams from Cobb were ranked No. 1 in the latest Class AAAAAA polls -- the Lassiter boys and the Harrison girls


The Georgia High School Association's state soccer playoffs are underway, and teams from Cobb, Douglas and Paulding make up a significant number of teams in the field.
Teams from Cobb were ranked No. 1 in the latest Class AAAAAA polls -- the Lassiter boys and the Harrison girls -- but several others are considered contenders for state championships as well.
Girls action got underway on Tuesday as Harrison, winners of 13 games in a row, was playing host to Valdosta. Other Class AAAAAA games on Tuesday include the following:
  • Camden Co. at No. 8 Hillgrove
  • Dacula at No. 10 Walton
  • Grayson at No. 4 Lassiter
The Class AAAAA tournament also started Tuesday, with North Atlanta at Pope, Gainesville at No. 4 North Paulding and Heritage-Conyers at Allatoona.
In Class AAAA, No. 9 Alexander is home against Johnson-Gainesville, also on Tuesday.
On Thursday, No. 5 Chapel Hill plays at home in Class AAA against Islands of Savannah, and inClass A, Pace is at Walker and Galloway is at Whitefield Academy. Mt. Paran, ranked No. 3, has a bye.

The Lassiter boys are undefeated this season, boasting a perfect 16-0 record and have shut out 11 opponents. The Trojans, who last won a state title in 1996, will put that mark on the line at home Wednesday against South Gwinnett.
Also on Wednesday in Class AAAAAA are the following games:
  • Colquitt Co. at North Cobb
  • Camden Co. at Campbell
  • Kennesaw Mountain at Lowndes
  • Walton at Central Gwinnett
  • Coffee Co. at No. 5 Harrison
  • Rockdale Co. at Douglas Co.
In the Class AAAAA tournament, No. 5 Allatoona plays at home against Cedar Shoals in another busy Wednesday of games involving Cobb, Douglas and Paulding teams:
  • East Paulding at Clarke Central
  • Osborne at Tucker
  • Dunwoody at Pope
  • North Paulding at Gainesville
  • Kell at Lakeside-DeKalb
  • Heritage-Conyers at South Paulding
In Class AAAA, also on Wednesday, No. 7 Alexander plays host to Lanier.
On Friday, Chapel Hill plays at home in Class AA against New Hampstead of Savannah. Also Friday, in Class A, Pace is at Walker and Mt. Paran has a bye.
State finals in some classifications will be held at Kennesaw State University May 17-18. The GHSA will determine those schedules after the third round of play.
