Lady Lions soccer beats LaGrange, runs unbeaten streak to 9

By staff reports
DEMOREST -- The Piedmont College women's soccer team needed just a pair of scores in a 90 minute effort to knock off the visiting Panthers of LaGrange College 2-0 Wednesday at Walker Athletic Complex.

The Lady Lions got a goal in the first half and a second in the next 45 to seal their 8th win in the last nine matches while also stretching their unbeaten streak to nine games.

The USA South match was scoreless through the first 40 minutes until Meghan Heim found a deflected through ball and slotted it to the far post for her first goal of the season, one that would eventually register as the gamewinner. That score just before halftime would be the only goal of the first 45 minutes though Piedmont would definitely have the better of the chances creating 11 shots to just a single effort for LaGrange.

Piedmont's second goal came from a familiar foot as senior Laura Goodwin scored her 10th goal in ten games to keep up her incredible run in 2013. Goodwin's goal came just over five minutes into the second half as the senior's shot from just outside the box hit the back the net with LaGrange keeper Chelsea Totaro unable to keep it in play.
