Local soccer club names Parra executive director of coaches

Atlanta Fire United, a Gwinnett-based club soccer program, announced the promotion this week of Carlos Parra to executive director of coaches. Parra was hired in June as the girls director of player development.
Parra will oversee the Select, Academy and Recreational programs, both boys and girls programs, the directors of coaching and the directors of operations. Since 2005, he worked as technical director for Weston FC (Fla.), but also was an elite program coach at AFU from 2002-05.
Parra was the first Project 40 player signed by Major League Soccer and his pro career included stints with the New York Metro Stars, the Miami Fusion and the New England Revolution. He also trained with AC Milan in Italy and Sunderland in England.
