Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole is set to join French side Lille on a season-long loan deal.

Cole, who has endured a troubled time at Anfield after signing on a free transfer last summer, had attracted interest from Tottenham and QPR.

But the former Chelsea star is believed to be undergoing a medical at Lille later on Tuesday.

The move could trigger a quick-fire sale of Lille's star winger Eden Hazard, with Arsenal and Liverpool among his pursuers.

Harry Redknapp opened the door to the idea of a reunion with Cole at Tottenham last week.

But the lure of Champions League football with the French champions appears to have swayed Cole's decision.

The 29-year-old has been frozen out by Reds boss Kenny Dalglish and the midfielder accepts he must leave Liverpool to rekindle a career which has stalled since a serious knee injury two-and-a-half-years ago.

'I like Joe and no-one knows him better than me,' said Redknapp.

'I wouldn't sit here and say to you that I wouldn't sign him, because I'd be lying. I signed him when he was 11 and I watched him grow up.

'He was the best young footballer I've ever seen. I've never seen anyone who could come anywhere near him.

'I'd love the chance to work with him again, because he's a talent and a great lad. He loves football, works hard and loves training.'
