Edmonton Beat Silverbacks 3-0

Atlanta Fall Short in Edmonton

Atlanta played well early and had chances, but fell apart in the end

It was another frustrating evening for the Atlanta Silverbacks and their fans (and I'm sure the Montreal Impact for that matter). A game that look promising for Atlanta finally unravelled midway through the 2nd half and a very tight game was blown open largely on defensive mistakes. FC Edmonton have now beaten the Silverbacks earlier in the season by scores of 1 - 0 and 2 - 0 and now they continue the upward pattern defeating Atlanta by the score of 3 -0. With the win, Edmonton solidify their grip on a playoff spot and move into 4th place. One goal from Saiko and a brace from Michael Cox were enough damage to take all 3 points on the night.
Sadly the memory of the Silverbacks early play will probably be forgotten with the final result, but Atlanta were not without chances especially in the first half. The Silverbacks had long periods of dominance and look threatening whenever they moved forward, but a lack of finishing would see good opportunities missed and it came back to bite them in the 2nd half. After Montreal's first goal, Atlanta heads hung low for the Silverbacks and Edmonton smelled blood. Edmonton took control of the game scoring an additional 2 goals in quick succession and never looked back.
The Silverbacks will now welcome a trip back home to the friendly confines of Silverback Park for 2 games, one against the Carolina Railhawks and another against the Puerto Rico Islanders before another 3 game away swing ending the season at home against Montreal on September 24th. Tickets for all remaining home games are available for purchase on-line at The Official Atlanta Silverbacks Website or by contacting directly here: (404) 969-4900 or Click Here To Email The Silverbacks Ticket Office for more information.
